The Librarian Franchise

The Librarian franchise consists of three made for TV movies and a TV series. The series in all of its capacity is a fun and engaging franchise with fantastical adventures spanning the globe.

The Librarian: The Quest for the Spear (2004)
In this very first installment in the series, we meet Flynn Carson, a professional student with 22 degrees. When his teacher graduates him early, he is recruited to work in the New York Public Library. But this isn't the part that the public sees. This part of the Library is underground and houses such artifacts as the Ark of the Covenant and Excalibur to name a few. It is Flynn's job as The Librarian to protect these relics from people that would use them to rule the world. His first villain here is the Serpent Brotherhood who steal the Spear of Destiny (the spear that supposedly pierced Jesus on the cross). This spear was broken into three pieces and scattered throughout the world. It's Flynn's job to find the other two pieces of the Spear before the Brotherhood does and prevent them from taking over the world.

The Librarian: Return to King Solomon's Mines (2006)
Flynn now has to search for the legendary King Solomon's mines where supposedly an ancient book used to summon the powers of the Underworld is kept. Again sinister people want this for themselves, and Flynn has to prevent them from getting it. He also finds something about his own destiny in this quest.

The Librarian: The Curse of the Judas Chalice (2008)
The Judas Chalice can supposedly resurrect dead vampires. The shadowy organization this time wants to find the chalice to resurrect Dracula and have him bring back the glory days of the Soviet Union (oh what would Hollywood do without Nazis and Communists? We would have so few villains). Again, not good so Flynn and sexy vampire Simone must stop the former KGB agents before they unleash one of the worst vampires of all time.

The Librarians (2014-present)
And this is the TV show in the mix. Flynn doesn't really show up as much in this and it follows more the exploits of new librarians Jake Stone, Cassandra, and Ezekiel Jones and their guardian Eve Baird. The series is really enjoyable, but you can tell that they didn't have as big a budget as with the movies. They really go to no exciting locales and their "artifacts" are not as known as the ones in the previous 3 movies. However, I wasn't watching it for this, so I don't care. I was just so glad to have my Flynn back in any capacity! And I was thrilled that this was renewed for a second and now a third season. Now if only they'd release it on DVD, I'd be happy! :)
