An Angel for the Earl is one of my favorite regency
romances. The story begins with Lucinda dying in a most scandalous manner. When
she gets to the gates of heaven she is informed that although she had lived a virtuous
life prior to her recent demise, the scandal surrounding her death provides a quandary.
The angels agree to send her back to earth as a guardian spirit of notorious
rake Lord Stanford. If Lucy can save Stanford from the threat of Hell, then she
will be allowed into the gates of heaven. But when Lucy meets Stanford and
starts to fall in love with him and he with her, she has to decide if she wants
to die or if she wants to stay with her earl for many years to come. The book
